Mrs. Elaine Wynn - Director of Wynn Resorts and this year's Governor's Philanthropist of the Year, moved to Las Vegas in 1967 with her husband and daughter.
For the next several years, Mrs. Wynn spent much of her time as a community leader, working to see that the city of Las Vegas provided plenty of educational and cultural opportunities for its residents. She has worked with such organizations like the UNLV Foundation, the National Governors' Association Education Summit, and the Nevada Gaming Foundation for Educational Excellence.
Mrs. Wynn currently serves on the board of many local and national philanthropic organizations, including the After-School All-Stars Foundation, Communities in Schools and the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
In addition to her many community activities, Mrs. Wynn had devoted much of her life to helping develop the family business. She and Mr. Wynn started their hotel-casino company in 1973 with the downtown Las Vegas hotel, the Golden Nugget. Over the years, they have expanded their company and have created some of the most world-renowned spots, including The Mirage, Treasure Island, Bellagio and Wynn Las Vegas.
